<h3>Current Practices, Future Trends</h3>

<p>The 2013 edition of the LRC Internationalisation and Localisation Summer School will focus on current practices and future trends in modern localisation. The summer school workshops will aim to provide participants with an overview of a number of important aspects in localisation; lesser-resourced languages, Open Source and Open Community localisation and the importance of terminology management in Localisation. They will also provide attendees with an update on the latest developments in some of the industry’s leading localisation tools and provide in depth demonstrations of their uses and functionality.</p>

<p>In addition the Summer School will feature a full day excursion to the west of Ireland so that attendees can combine their learning with some sightseeing, socialising and light networking.</p>

<p><strong>Kevin Scannell</strong>&nbsp;-&nbsp;<a href="http://www.slu.edu/" target="_blank"><strong>Saint Louis University</strong></a></p>

<p>Kevin Scannell is Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saint Louis University, Missouri, USA, where he has taught since 1998.</p>

<p>He has been developing software to benefit Irish speakers for more than a decade, including a spell checker, grammar checker, search engine, and an electronic thesaurus. He also leads the Irish translation teams for most of the prominent open source software projects, among them LibreOffice and Mozilla Firefox.</p>

<p>An advocate for indigenous and minority languages worldwide, he has collaborated with more than 50 language groups to create freely available and reusable language resources. In 2011 he founded the Indigenous Tweets project to promote the use of indigenous languages in social media.</p>

<p><strong>Jeff Beatty</strong>&nbsp;-&nbsp;<a href="http://www.mozilla.org/" target="_blank"><strong>Mozilla</strong></a></p>

<p>Jeff Beatty is program manager of localisation at Mozilla, the makers of the popular open source web browser, Firefox.</p>

<p>Mozilla has one of the first and largest community-driven localisation programs in the software industry. This successful program and its contributors actively ship Firefox in over 90 locales in a rapid development release cycle.</p>

<p>With over five years of translation and localisation experience, Jeff brings a newcomer's spirit and an outsider's perspective to Mozilla. As program manager, Jeff aims to showcase Mozilla's localisation program, advocate for localisation standards and serve as intermediary between Mozilla, its community and the localisation industry.</p>

<p><strong>Mark Childress</strong>&nbsp;-&nbsp;<a href="http://www.sap.com/index.epx" target="_blank"><strong>SAP</strong></a></p>

<p>Mark Daniel Childress has a B.A. from Humboldt State University in California and an M.A. from Heidelberg University in Germany.</p>

<p>He joined SAP AG in Walldorf, Germany in 1995 as a translator and has been responsible for the company’s terminology management since 1998. He is the current president of the German Association for Terminology (Deutscher Terminologie-Tag / DTT).</p>

<p>Mark gives frequent lectures and training on terminology management for technical writers, translators, and universities and has written articles on terminology work for publications including MultiLingual and eDITion, the journal of the DTT.</p>
